Delete your account
Inkspace, the reading tracker by Vijay Shankar
You can delete your Inkspace account, and everything in it, yourself at any time. It takes a few seconds and needs nobody’s approval.
In the app
- Open Inkspace — the Android app, the iPhone app, or inkspacex.com — and sign in.
- Tap the gear at the top of the Today page to open Settings.
- Under Your data, tap Delete my account, then Delete account.
- Google asks you to sign in once more, to be sure it is you. When you have, the account is gone and the app returns to its front page.
If you cannot open the app
Write to privacy@inkspacex.com from the Google address you signed in with, with the subject “Delete my Inkspace account”. The account will be deleted within 30 days and you will get a reply when it is done. Sending the request from that address is how you are recognised, so nothing else is needed.
What is deleted
- Your account — the name, email address, profile-picture address and account ID that Google passed to Inkspace when you signed in.
- Your library — every book, every reading session, your yearly goal, the genres you picked, and the summary of your statistics.
- Your photos of pages — every photo you kept with a book, with its highlights and note, from Inkspace’s own server (
media.inkspacex.com). - What the app kept on that device — your reminder choices, any running timer, the suggestions you dismissed, and — on a phone — the copies of your photos of pages. Scheduled reminders are cancelled.
It is removed from the live database and from Inkspace’s server at once, on every device, and cannot be brought back. Copy a backup first (Settings → Copy a backup) if you might want your reading history later.
What is kept
- Nothing that identifies you is kept by Inkspace.
- Google, which runs the database, may hold encrypted backup copies for up to 180 days before they are overwritten.
- If the app ever asked for suggestions to follow a book on your shelf, that request — a book title and its author, with nothing about you — stays, since it was never linked to your account.
Deleting your data but keeping the account
To start again with an empty shelf, use Settings → Erase everything instead. It deletes every book, every reading session and every photo of a page, and keeps your sign-in, your goal and your genres.
